The kick-off for the Erste Bank Open 2023 turned out to be spectacular. In the final of the mini tie-break tournament at Erste Bank Open 2 Go on the grounds of the Wiener Eislauf-Verein at Heumarkt, Germany's Alexander Zverev ultimately prevailed in four sets against local hero Dominic Thiem to claim the title at Red Bull BassLine for the first time.
The mini-tournament lasted just under 2.5 hours in front of a sold-out crowd, with Frances Tiafoe, Andrey Rublev, Jurij Rodionov and Fabian Marozsan competing in two groups of three in addition to Zverev and Thiem.
In the Round Robin matches, Thiem defeated Rublev and Rodionov, while Zverev prevailed over Tiafoe and Marzsan. As group winners, the two thus met in the final, which was also a rematch of the US Open final of 2020. In contrast to then, Zverev kept the upper hand and prevailed 5-1, 5-0, 3-5, 5-4.
