Karen Khachanov (ATP No. 24) won with surprising ease against the Italian Matteo Berrettini (ATP No. 41). Khachanov, who had come to Vienna with the confidence of his tournament win in Almaty last week, continued where he had left off in the round of 16 against the American Brandon Nakashima: namely with a strong performance. Khachanov defeated Berrettini 6:1, 6:4 in just 78 minutes, fending off both break points and converting three of the 12 break points he faced against the normally strong server Berrettini. After losing four duels, it was the first time Khachanov had won a match against the Italian.

In the last and longest match of the day, Australian Alex de Minaur, the No. 2 seed, prevailed 6:7 (2), 6:3, 6:4 against the young Czech qualifier Jakub Mensik. Minaur, the world number 10, had to concede the first set in a tie-break after a strong performance from his opponent, before slowly but surely gaining the upper hand in the second set. After more than 2.5 hours, the Australian finally converted his first match point to advance to the semi-finals.
