October 20, 2024 will be a true Super Sunday! On this day, Dominic Thiem celebrates a big farewell party with his fans in the Wiener Stadthalle. There will be a rematch of the 2020 US Open final, which the local tennis favorite won against German Alexander Zverev in five sets. A must-attend event for all Thiem and tennis fans! On Super Sunday (October 20, 2024), the successful career of the former world number three will be celebrated once again in the Wiener Stadthalle. And what better way to do so than to relive the greatest sporting moment of the local crowd favorite with a “rematch” of the 2020 US Open final against Alexander Zverev.

Austrian sports history

Thiem made sports history back then in a highly dramatic final and became the first Austrian to win the singles title at the US Open. The Lower Austrian turned around the final against the German after trailing 0-2 in sets and 3-5 in the fifth set to triumph 2-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (8/6) after 4:01 hours. A little more than four years later, this memorable match will be revived in Vienna. The rematch will be played over one set and will finally get the crowd it deserved in Flushing Meadows in 2020.

“As you know, we had to play without spectators in New York. Fortunately, that will now be different in the Wiener Stadthalle. I'm looking forward to being on court once again with Sascha (Alexander Zverev, ed.), with whom I have a close friendship on the tour,” said Thiem, who also has a very special attraction in store for his fans.

Fans get involved

As part of an entertaining one-shot cup on October 20, spectators will also have the opportunity to serve on center court at the Wiener Stadthalle. “Fun should not be neglected on this day, and entertainment is certainly guaranteed with this format,” Thiem is convinced. In the One-Shot Cup, winning one point is enough to advance to the next round.

Stars from other sports, long-time companions, family and friends are also expected to attend Dominic Thiem's farewell at the Stadthalle. The final highlight will be an award ceremony for the 2019 Vienna winner and 2020 US Open champion.
