Kei Nishikori is one of the biggest names on the ATP Tour - after a few physical setbacks, the 34-year-old is now back on track! Most recently, Nishikori reached the quarter-finals at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Montreal and at his home tournament in Tokyo. The former world number four and winner of twelve ATP tournaments also has fond memories of Vienna after reaching the final in 2018.

“Kei Nishikori is still a superstar on the tennis circuit who enjoys absolute cult status in his Japanese homeland. He has proven in recent weeks that his form is on a steep upward curve again. Kei Nishikori's comeback in Vienna will further increase international interest in the Erste Bank Open,” explains Tournament Director Herwig Straka. As far as the worldwide TV coverage of the Viennese tennis highlight is concerned, the matches from the Stadthalle will be broadcast in almost 200 countries this year - that's a new record!

Fritz out - Nishikori also plays Red Bull BassLine
There is less good news from Taylor Fritz, who had to cancel his appearance in Vienna due to muscle soreness. The American was also due to serve at Red Bull BassLine on Friday, October 18, 2024. Fritz's place at this spectacular show event, which will also feature defending champion Alexander Zverev (GER) and Austria's top talent Joel Schwärzler, will now be taken by Nishikori.
