The second day of the main competition at the Erste Bank Open 2024 began with a scare for one of the favorites: Alex de Minaur, the tournament's No. 2 and world No. 10, initially found himself on the losing side against German Jan Lennard Struff. The German took the first set 6-2, but the tide turned completely in the second set: de Minaur took it by the same score and managed to carry the momentum into the decider. In the end, it was 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 for the Australian, who will face Italy's Flavio Cobolli in the round of 16 on Thursday.
Crowd favorite Frances Tiafoe had fewer problems. He defeated Britain's Cameron Norrie 6-4, 7-6.
The American Marcos Giron and the Serb Miomir Kecmanovic prevailed in just two sets. Giron defeated his compatriot Alex Michelsen 7-6 (4), 6-3, while Kecmanovic made short work of Argentinian Marano Navone 6-2, 6-4.
