In the final, the Austrians defeated the British-New Zealand pairing of Neil Skupski/Michael Venus 4-6, 6-3, 10-1. It was the second tournament win in a row for Erler/Miedler (after Antwerp the previous week) and their seventh together.
The Austrian duo were already one break ahead in the first set when the momentum changed. Instead of 5-3, it was suddenly 4:4, Skupski/Venus easily stayed on serve and followed up with another break to win the set.
Turning the tide
The Austrians were not deterred by this and managed to break for a 1-0 lead right at the start of the second set. With difficulty, but nevertheless, the Austrians held their service and equalized the set with another break.
Erler/Miedler left nothing to chance in the match tie-break, allowing their opponents just one point and securing their second title at the Erste Bank Open since 2022.
Alexander Erler raved about the atmosphere in the sold-out arena afterwards: “It was amazing, the arena was full. I don't think we've ever managed a 10-1 in the match tiebreak before.” Lucas Miedler said: “It feels completely different to two years ago. Back then I couldn't really enjoy the week, I didn't sleep well. This time we were almost gone in the first round, then we took it match by match, point by point. But I wouldn't want to miss either title.”
